The Way of Saint James: Your Journey Through Faith, History, and Relaxation in Tuscany

The Cammino di San Jacopo, also known as the Cammino di San Jacopo in Toscana, is an ancient and evocative devotional route. It follows the historic Via Cassia, connecting Florence to Lucca (passing through Prato, Pistoia, and Pescia), and represents a crucial segment of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. This approximately 100 km route, divided into four stages, offers a full immersion in a unique territory, rich with exceptional historical, artistic, and natural heritage.

Pistoia: The "Minor Santiago"

The route can be undertaken as a standalone journey, with Pistoia as the final destination—a city of great spiritual significance. Pistoia is nicknamed the “Minor Santiago” due to the presence of a precious relic of Saint James the Greater.

Housed in the Cathedral of San Zeno, in the "Giudizio" chapel, the relic—a fragment of bone brought by Bishop Atto from Santiago de Compostela in 1144—makes Pistoia a crossroads of ancient European pilgrimages and a place of particular veneration. Every July 25th, the city celebrates the Feast of Saint James, its patron saint, with the historic Giostra dell’Orso.
