Villa Agnolaccio: The Slow Pace of Authentic Tuscany

Nestled among rows of cypress trees, olive groves, and gentle hills, Villa Agnolaccio is much more than a historic residence: it is an invitation to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with life’s essential beauty.

Located along the scenic Via Acciaio e Agnolaccio, which crosses the Groppoli Flora and Fauna Reserve, the villa enjoys an ideal position for those seeking a balance between exploration and tranquility: just 3 km from Pistoia’s center, 30 km from Florence, and 40 km from Lucca.

A place where time stands still

The history of Villa Agnolaccio dates back to the early 18th century, as documented in the writings of Alberto Chiappelli, preserved at the Forteguerriana Library in Pistoia.

During the 19th century, under the ownership of Canon Roberto Galli, the villa was expanded and enriched with the construction of the small Chapel of San Giuseppe in 1856, which became a spiritual landmark for the local community.

Just a short walk from the villa are two true gems of the area: the Romanesque church of San Michele a Groppoli, featuring Pistoia’s oldest pulpit (1193), and the evocative Convent of Giaccherino, dating back to the 15th century.

Every detail of Villa Agnolaccio—from its original materials to the wooden ceilings—speaks of a deep connection to its past.

Living memory, even in children’s stories

A fascinating glimpse into the villa’s history comes from a school essay written by a child about 100 years ago.

The essay notes that the origins of the name “Agnolaccio” and the villa itself are uncertain, but recounts that a Pistoian family, the Galli, at some point restored and expanded the property.

One family member, a wealthy priest, built a small church—today’s Chapel of San Giuseppe—where he regularly celebrated mass for the local community.

A simple yet precious story, showing that even a century ago, the villa was an integral part of the life of the territory.

Details that tell the past

Walking through the rooms and common areas of the villa, it’s easy to be enchanted by the original details that still speak of its long history. One of the most fascinating features is the majestic entrance door, dating back to the villa’s early 18th-century construction.

Made of solid wood, the door has welcomed generations of guests, families, and travelers. It is a symbol of the villa’s soul: strong, elegant, and deeply connected to its past.

Every imperfection in the wood, every mark of time, is part of its beauty, making Villa Agnolaccio an authentic place where history is felt in every detail.

Authentic hospitality, also for families

Today, Villa Agnolaccio has been lovingly restored by Ettore and his wife, who have transformed the historic residence into a cozy bed & breakfast, furnished with taste and respect for its origins.

Spacious rooms, large outdoor areas, and a panoramic swimming pool make the villa perfect for families seeking relaxation, nature, and tranquility.

Here, children can play safely, adults can relax among the garden’s fragrances or read a book under an olive tree. Everyone can rediscover the pleasure of time passing slowly, in an authentic corner of Tuscany.
